Cafés split sharply into two groups. Independent coffee roasters are among the most reliably dog-welcoming venues in London; chains are governed by head-office policy that varies and changes without notice.
Counter-service cafés are more likely to admit dogs indoors than table-service ones, because the food-handling area is behind a counter rather than crossing the floor. It is a small structural detail that predicts policy better than a café’s style or price does.
